Tiny Press at SAAG is a handmade bookbinding studio within the Southern Alberta Art Gallery Maansiksikaitsitapiitsinikssin. Tiny Press prints and binds books one-at-a-time, collaborating with artists, writers, and designers, from Southern Alberta and abroad. Tiny Press is a community resource and a social gathering place for those interested in learning about publishing and connecting with others in a fun DIY space.

WORKSHOPS

The Tiny Press Studio holds workshops throughout the year. During our workshops, you can learn about the Studio and get hands-on bookbinding experience. Workshop attendees also get to keep a copy of the book they helped create.

If you have any questions or are interested in publishing with Tiny Press, please contact our Program & Event Coordinator, Heather Kehoe, at hkehoe@saag.ca

PRINT YOUR OWN BOOK

Tiny Press is a community resource for writers and artists interested in publishing their work . If you have a book project you want to undertake, we want to work with you. We price projects based on the size of the order and the materials requested. To estimate the cost of your project, please use the following calculation:

(Cost of pages x number of pages per book x number of editions) + book cover cost = cost of project

Cost of pages:

Black and white on printer-grade paper: $0.10 per page of content

Colour printing on printer-grade paper: $0.20 per page of content

NOTE: 1 sheet printed 2 sides = 2 pages of content

We provide cardstock covers free of charge. Specialty materials for covers and book content can be provided for an additional fee. Tiny Press can print books in various sizes, up to a maximum of 8” x 11”. The books must be at least 25 pages long (50 pages double-sided), and can be up to 200 pages long (400 pages double-sided). We print a minimum of 10 editions and a maximum of 100 editions per project. All books are printed and bound in-house by the Gallery staff. If you would like to assist with the printing process, we would subsidize the printing cost by 10%. You would have the opportunity to learn how to use the Tiny Press equipment and have a direct hand in creating your books. Tiny Press costs and timelines will vary depending on the needs of each project.

Due to technical issues, we currently cannot print any materials. Any book projects must be printed externally prior to binding. If you have any questions please contact Heather Kehoe, Program & Event Coordinator, hkehoe@saag.ca.
