APPARITION | KAI CHAN
11.25.2006 | 01.14.2007

Kai Chan’s Work is noted for its fragile and transient nature which belies the dramatic intensity of his imagery. His exhibition Apparition, currently on display at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, uses accumulations of readily available materials as expressions of identity that denote a cultural ambiguity and reflect the artist’s background.

Kai Chan is internationally recognized for his experimental approach and has exhibited worldwide including Australia, Europe, Asia and North America. In 1998 Chan was the recipient of the Jean A. Chalmers National Craft Award and in 2002 received the prestigious Saidye Bronfman Award for Excellence in the Fine Crafts. In 2003 Chan was granted a residency at the Canada Council Studio in Paris where he further refined his approach and practice.
